Today I will talk about how to setup multiple languages website in magento.
In this example I’ll guide you to create a website with two languages: English,French, German.
There are different ways we can configure magento. Lets go for quick and easy way to setup multi language store.
Step 1: First login to magento admin panel and then go the “System Menu > Manage Store”. Once you are on manage store page; create three stores. one by one (english, french and german).
Create three stores
Website*: Main Website
Name* : Main Store
Root Category* : 0
Now create store view for each store e.g. Values for english store. You can change english to french and german and appropriate sort order and you are done.
English store view values:
Store * : Main Store
Name * : English
Code * : English
Status *: enabled
Sort Order : 1
Now you are done with creating store and store view.
Step 2: Select appropriate language for each store.
In order to select language for each store select “System > Configuration”. Let the page get loaded, on this page extreme left top corner there is “Current Configuration Scope” drop down. Select value english, french and german one by one. lets consider for french first.
Select value french and let the page get loaded. Now select “General Tab from left menu” and “Locale Options > Locale to ‘french’ “. ref following image.

Step 3: Install the french and german language pack using “Magento Connect Manager” and now you can go to the front-end and see how it works.
